Mrs. Allen

  Mrs. Allen enjoys incorporating the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney into classroom lessons.  Students attending summer camp at the Westminster School in Atlanta enjoyed reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid  series and then participating in such activities as creating their own journals and putting on a talk-show interview with characters from the book.  Mrs. Allen hopes to plan a long-term unit for middle school students based on the series by Jeff Kinney.  She finds it inspiring when children who are not normally engaged in reading find something they love that makes them want to read a book cover to cover. 

Mrs. Allen hopes to incorporate other popular literature such as Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga, and Lord of the Rings into future lesson plans.  Mrs. Allen is especially interested in experimenting with the concept of fan fiction in the classroom in order to engage young writers.
